Live: Lightspeed Champion @ New Age Club, Roncade (TV)
It is a warm Saturday night in early April when I reach the New Age, nestled among the warehouses of the local industrial area Roncade, a village east of Treviso, to attend the show of Dev Hynes, aka Lightspeed Champion. Being an evening sponsored by hatred Nordkapp (which it tries to push the indie kids with Hogan as four feet, but for which, fortunately, tonight you do not even see the shadow), will perform in the opening two bands Winners of the contest organized by that brand of clothing: the leggings are the first three guys in their twenties that even cloning the big sound "British" Libertines and Arctic Monkeys, also by virtue of just like a seasoned singer Alex Turner (choice, I suppose, anything but involuntary). Apart from a couple of nice tracks but nothing more, never mind, and prepare for disaster: the Wah Companion are another trio, this time of forty (unless some aspect of registrar) whose lyrics are profound meditations on the meaning of life and the consequences of it ..... In short: "I play pop / and" uh-uh "is the best I can offer. We look forward to the release of the press release that officially dissolved.
Fianlmente it's time that everyone was waiting: while the stage is set up in a hurry a little man (aka "Our Hero") onstage: wearing a shirt, a jacket and a down vest, from whose pocket check "Monster" by REM. In addition, wearing a pair of glasses and a fur hat nerdissimi.
Nothing to say.
Except that the New Age is hot even in December.
When everything is ready, the band (Dev as a bassist and a violinist-guitarist assgiunto both held by woodsman, and a rather pretty young drummer) attacks with a dream sequence: "Dry Lips", "Galaxy Of The Lost" and "No Surprise", a triptych from the album debut, the gem "Falling Off The Lavender Bridge" (about which I will soon). The voice of 'Anglo-American, the expertise of the musicians and nice entr'actes between songs and the other (often indecipherable) I do bless my stubbornness that I shoulder confinto to bear without fleeing from local groups. Here are the all-new "Marlene", a beautiful electric funk that will take its place on the second disc, "Tell Me What Is Worth" and the new "Madame Van Damme", which is located on the MySpace group. Devonte (his name) goes back and forth between the electric piano in a corner and the center stage, while the first part of the medley "All To Shit" / "I Could Have Done This Myself" sings even playing drums, while the other musicians will exchange the instruments. But I have not mentioned the passion of our exaggerated for "Star Wars", which is manifested by the introduction of the next track, the wonderful symphony brighteyesiana ten-minute "Midnight Surprise" (renamed for the occasion, "Imperial Surprise"): which is precisely the main theme of the saga, the prelude to a performance nothing short of inspiration.
But, although it appears all over, shortly after Dev back on stage for a reinterpretation of acoustics "Heart In A Cage The Strokes, with a guitar on which stands a huge sticker of" Star Wars "(fact).
Cheers, applause, and the evening ended at its best. From now on, a few more have discovered the incredible talent of a guy that just two decades has already had a musical maturity and expe equal to those of a forty.
